Discipleship Thought began as a weekly email from First Baptist Church at the Mall's Discipleship Pastor, Mark Bedwell, to his Sunday Morning Connect Group Leadership Team. These Thoughts were meant as a weekly encouragement, point to ponder, break from the day and sometimes even meant to make you stop and say "hmmm?"

We hope you find encouragement. Feel free to pass this along to someone who might need a little encouragement today!

SONG

If your life was a song, what kind of song would you be?
What words would fill the chorus line..what rhythms would we hear?
Would you be a country ballad full of sad tales and hard times…
Full of Drunken words mixed with  painful tears?

Would you be a gangsta rap and raise your hand up to ‘the man?’
Would you blame and would you rant for the  place that you are in?
Shaming what is right, and mocking what is true,
Bringing glory to what is dark and what is sin.

Would you be a famous rock song, one that decades carries through…
Boasting of your wins, and throwing caution to the fire?
Pronouncing very loudly that you will not be denied….
Flaunting  what feels good and feeding your desire.

Would you be a soulful blues song luring others in….
Moaning and wailing of your great misery?
Crying out unfair and being left behind….
Would you use this tune to gather sympathy?

Would you be a lullaby, a whimsical fantastical tale?
Would pretending be your source of hope…your reality?
Spinning tales, faking smiles, waiting for happily ever after…
But quietly wishing to truly be set free.

If your life was a song, what kind of song would you be?
What melody are you sending to the Father up above?
For His life is a love song and it is being sung to you….
Full of hope..and grace….and peace…and full of love.

His desire for our life’s ballad…is to see a change break through.
A change that shatters brokenness and breaks down walls of fear.
For once was bitterness and envy…was hopelessness and lust…
Is now replaced with salvation that will last throughout the years.

His desire for our life’s ballad…is to see a change break through.
He instills within our heart a song…a hymn of praise.
That cries out to the nations…that cries out to the lonely saint.
That He alone is worthy….and it is He alone that saves.

So stand upon your rock of hope..your place where truth is near.
And change your song to give Him praise…..sing out for all to hear.
Your life was meant to be a hymn….a thankful….joyful melody.
Sing it loud for all to hear….wave your arms for all to see.
For when you truly make this change and when it is no longer about you..
Many will see the God in which you boast..and their song just might change…too.

May you recognize the condition of your heart.  May you find a place and a time to truly let go of the things that are holding you back from worshipping Him.  May you allow Him to remove the junk and may you allow Him to replace it with praise.  May you understand that it is not about you and it is not about me.  May you understand that He is the star of the story and the theme of the song and that when we focus on Him and praise Him…not only will you change….but others around us will change as well.  May you recognize the power of music. This week…may you surround yourself with music of praise…in your car and in your home.  May you stand on your rock and may you sing…..a hymn of praise to our God.

He stood me up on a solid rock
to make sure I wouldn't slip.
He taught me how to sing the latest God-song,
      a praise-song to our God.
More and more people are seeing this:
      they enter the mystery,
      abandoning themselves to God.
Psalm 40:2-3
